Hello... Yes, I see your point, Karl, and apologize if I sounded a little bit harsh back there. But, while in a hypothetical forum, having both of the Bismarck-class along with the twins or PE/Graf Spee in the Atlantic at the same time would, as Ludovic Kennedy say in the NG documentary, alte...

Hi... I've learned that portions of the armoured hull plating of the Tirpitz is being used to cover up holes during road work in Oslo even to this day... Whether it's true I don't know but that's what I've heard. It's kind of funny but also sad to think the traffic in Oslo have been driving across t...

Hello again... You didn't misspell Fornebu at all. :D But if they have a Tiger tanks over there I guess I'll have to pay the place a visit very soon. In fact, I live not too far from a coastal fort where the B turret of the Gneisenau is placed. While speaking of german war artefacts in Norway, of co...

Hello... I'm just curious. how was the hydrophones attached to the hull and where? As for the detail of the detected torpedoes at DS, is it possible to hear anything in the water when you're aboard one of four ships in a heavy engagement? The guns alone make a lot of noise, but all those high-speed ...

Hello, Karl... yes, I'm as norwegian as they get. So, your dad's from Fredrikstad? A former navy man, perhaps? I also agree on Miros perspective. When I think about it, the human factor and nature seems to be the crucial factors rather than technical aspects. But as Miro also said, you cant access a...

Hello again... I see your point and I totally agree with you. In such a scenario I'll also favour the Hood. :D But then, back to the question in my first post. Say this encounter occured in the Denmark Strait (Of course a very suitable place for an encounter with the Hood) An early morning during sp...

Hello... First of all, you're completely right concerning the commanders... But, the 11-inches of the Scharnhorst should be able to penetrate the armour of the Hood at some range, right? They weren't just toy guns! How about rate of fire, accuracy and range between the BC's? Doesn't this also matter...

Wouldn't the outcome of the battle be dependent of a whole lot more than just gun size..? I mean factors like: Who spots who first and at what range? Bearing and speed of each ship? Course of action made by each of the commanders? (although I think the Hood would have pursued any possibility as the ...

Greatest warship of all time
Since there’s a poll upon the greatest battles and Admirals, why not add your opinions upon the greatest ship of all time? With enough suggestions maybe we could make a poll upon this as well? I’ll just kick off with my favourite and hopefully you’ll add yours. The Seydlitz – She was a shell magnet ...

I’ve always meant that if you’re not certain of having made a mistake, just commit a new one. It will at least verify whether you were wrong the first time. Well, I had a good laugh though! Anyway, if someone knows more about the details surrounding the fascinating but missing section of the B...

OOPS..!
I was wondering why I didn't get any response until I discovered my great blunder. Yes, the torpedo struck the other side! It seemed so interesting to connect the void tanks with the blast that I didn't give it too much thought before replying. My sincerest apologies, folks... Still, in an ef...

Issues of trim and counter-trim
Hello, everybody… I’m new to this forum but have been fascinated by the story of the Bismarck for some years now, which of course have resulted in some books and videos about the Bismarck and also the other ships of the Kriegsmarine. Well, I’ll just get on with my questions and take it from there… A...
