Hello everybody, welcome in Sean :D , .. nice to hear from you. I am sure that now we can continue on a fair and gentleman discussion here, never forgetting we are talking about a naval battle fought 72 years ago and providing personal opinions ONLY from a military stand point, with no intention to ...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

Hello everybody, OK, now I see that the event sequence after the turn away 160 degrees to port ordered by Capt Leach seems to have been accepted by everybody, just as it should be given the official evidences available. Thorsten has showed us a very good info about the PoW salvo 16th and the Bismarc...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

hello everybody, @Thorsten, and here is what I have done after, selecting among the previous 4 maps the one that in my opinion was closer and better done ( please notice that on the gunnery map below the small turn to avoid Hood is even NOT reported, as PoW is showed going straight on ... .....

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

Hello everybody, @Thorsten, OK, now we move due to your analysis on the photos and film taken from Prinz Eugen on another part of this battle, … not after the hit on the compass platform by Bismarck that caused Capt Leach reaction and the turn away of 160 degrees to port disengaging, … but back on w...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

Hello everybody, @ Dunmunro, again ... it is Capt Leach himself that stated clearly that he TURNED AWAY ... BEFORE Y turret fired in Local control ... not AFTER ! ... and again, ... just like for the above sequence you would like to scramble in order to fit your theory ... similarly you cannot move ...

Hello everybody,

@ Dunmunro,

you wrote :
All we have to do is move the last salvo fired in local control forward by a 30 secs to a minute and then it will be fired as PoW starts her turn away and smoke screen.
You must be joking Duncan, ... arent you ?

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

hello everybody, @Dunmunro, I am sorry for you, but we have Capt Leach official statement and PoW Gunnery report telling us what " obscured " the AFT director as Brooke wrote, now we know what it was ... and it was the smoke screen of PoW just ordered by Capt Leach ... ... and in any case ...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

Hello everybody, @ Dunmunro, you wrote : What Leach actually did was to continue the fight, firing five more salvos under director control, then he rapidly opened the range, then turned to engage and then abandoned this plan when Y turret jammed, he then made smoke and turned away, exactly as Brooke...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

Hello everybody, @ Dunmunro, if Capt Leach wanted to keep the engagement on that moment he was not going to give the orders he gave : turn away 160 degrees, start the smoke screen and fire the aft turret while retreating, just as he did BEFORE time 06.03-06.04. What he did after is a whole different...

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

Hello everybody, there are no doubts to me about the event sequence and their timing. The decision to breack-off and turn away 160 degree to port at 06.01, followed by the order to fire Y turret while retreating passing control to the aft director and simoultaneously start the smoke screen. Last Y t...
