Re: Bismarck trapped

OK guys. I think you are right.
After reading Tommy303 post you have convinced me. Bismarck did what she had to do.

Graf Spee should of done the same, get out of Montevideo and resume the fight with the British cruisers to the last shell.

Re: What is needed to sink a US Navy task force?

Of course as you say nothing is impossible and that is why I ask how would you attempt to attack the task force.
You can't expect to defeat those ships with a small motor launch no matter how much will power you have.

I'm just trying to put a realistic scenario.

Re: Bismarck trapped

to Karl Heidenreich: The heroes of El Alamo or the 101st Division in Bastogne to put an example sacrificed themselves to let others win (Patton, independence of Texas), but the case of the Bismack is different because the sacrifice of 2,000 Germans didn't allow other German forces to win anything. I...

Re: What is needed to sink a US Navy task force?

Over confidence helps a lot to destroy the un destructible assets, just that. Maybe a Russian submarine everybody underestimate, or a Kirov full of shipwreck missiles or just some planes. A Kirov would be seen in US Radar before it can get close to lauch anything and the F-18 fighters would launch ...

Re: What is needed to sink a US Navy task force?

This size of force is not very big - only one carrier for example. IT could be defeated by a small force of very fast underwater craft. Sink the carrier and the two nuclear subs, the rest must withdraw. How are you exactly gonna sink the carrier and the two subs? ... and how do you think you can pa...

Good idea. Sending a Hilfskreuzer with heavily armed marines. When the pirates get close then blow them out of the water!

Re: Operation Market Garden

I think the Germans wanted to launch the Ardennes offensive early in November but it was delayed a few times. OK at the time of Market Garden they didn't have all the armor divisions ready but had considerable reserves that could be sent against allies and delay the advance. I dont think the soviets...

Re: Bismarck trapped

Better for whom Tiornu aks? Much better for Bismarck crew that's for sure. When you have no chance to win it is better to surrender. About the Graf Spee, I think it was a mistake to scuttle the ship in Montevideo but to scuttle Bismarck before the last battle would of been a good order. When...

Re: Operation Market Garden

My opinion that if Operation Market Garden was successful there would be a big battle with the German forces concentrated for the Battle of the Bulge. I dont think the war would end in 1944, maybe in early 1945 but not in 1944. For me the difference is the Battle of the Bulge would be fought in the ...
