I will start by saying I have been a Bismarck historian/fan most of my life. And, at the same time share an interesting story........ My daughter many moons ago brought me a black and white cat. I named him Oscar and had him for many wonderful years. Later in searching on information regarding Bismarck, I stumbled across the oil painting of Oscar. It was a shock, to say the least; a carbon copy of my Oscar.

Strange coincidence?

Back in 2000, I had the opportunity to meet with Bruno Rzonca before he passed away in 2004 and he enlightened me that there were no animals aboard Bismarck.

I believe a theory concerning Oskar is that he came from one of the supply ships that were to supply Bismarck while at sea on Rhine Exercise and were subsequently tracked down and sunk by the RN following Bismarck's demise.

Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood and Earth's foundations stay;
What God abandoned these defended;
And saved the sum of things for pay.
