As forum members will be aware, this coming weekend and immediately after will see a sequence of anniversaries central to this websites' subject.
Let us hope that the memories of this conflict and the events of Rheinubung, especially of the dead on both sides, will not be forgotten and used to help prevent this sort of conflict breaking out again. So that future sea battles can be fought as hypothetical naval scenario's, where they truly belong, rather than tested in reality at the cost of people's lives and indeed threaten our very continued existence.

Re: 67th Anniversary
Thanks for posting that RF.
By the way, next May 27th, will also be the 10th anniversary of the website!
It seems it was just yesterday when it all started.

In order to honor a soldier, we have to tell the truth about what happened over there. The whole, hard, cold truth. And until we do that, we dishonor her and every soldier who died, who gave their life for their country. ( Courage Under Fire )

Re: 67th Anniversary
Well, today is May 24th, again. The day that we conmemorate the incredible deed performed by Bismarck and Prinz Eugen at Denmarck Straits. Also it marks the "untergang" of Hood and almost of Prince of Wales. Thousands lost their lives in that short but lethal combat. Thousands were about to lose their lives in the following days.
Other acts of heroism and bravery, such as those performed by the crews of the Swordfish, would be present. Acts of heroism from the crew of a Battleship that, even surrounded and being fired upon by a numerical and tactical superior enemy, didn´t surrender.
To the crews of Hood, Prince of Wales that lost their lives at May 24th: long live your memory! Rest in peace.
To the crew of Bismarck at May 27th: long live your memory! Rest in peace.
To the crews of the Swordfish, of the KGV, Rodney, Dorsetshire, Prinz Eugen, etc: You all did your duty with honor to your fatherland and motherlands. You all live in our minds and hearts.
Best regards.

Ditto that but, unfortunately, the lessons of history seem too hard for us to learn.Let us hope that the memories of this conflict and the events of Rheinubung, especially of the dead on both sides, will not be forgotten and used to help prevent this sort of conflict breaking out again.
Jose - thank you so much for an excellent forum, and for making everyone feel welcome.
