Bismarck's creast

Post by hymnHim »

When I served in the Navy I had the opportunity to study the ships crest on the ships I served aboard. They are filled with meaning, even the color has significance. I am curious does anyone know the the history and meaning of Bismarck's crest?

The blue field on the shield represents truth and loyalty; the three oak leaves are representative of strength and endurance; and the golden clover leaf or trefoil is for the Holy Trinity--Father Son and Holy Spirit. This alludes to the Bismarck family motto, in Latin, In trinitate robur, which means in 'in the Trinity--Strength.'

Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood and Earth's foundations stay;
What God abandoned these defended;
And saved the sum of things for pay.
