Battle of Denmark Strait - 75th anniversary

Post by RF »

Today, 24 May 2016, marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Denmark Strait, the cataclysmic event which established the legend of the Bismarck and ultimately spawned this website.

In marking this date, let us remember all the sailors who died in this battle.

Remembering all those who perished 75 years ago on this day - on both Hood and Prince of Wales - may their memory live on.

According to the HMS Hood website, the ship's bell display will be unveiled today in Portsmouth.

I do join RF and Paul in remembering the brave sailors who perished on board one of the finest ships ever built !

And very nice it looks.

Whilst I can appreciate the reasons stated for recovering the bell from the seabed - reasons which are not beyond dispute - I think the bell, being part of a war grave, should have been left where it lay.

A replica, stated as a replica, could have been used instead.
