Gentlemen,
Please forgive my ignorance in this, but if the KGV's gained several thousand tons over the years since they were built, where did all the extra weight go, was it all on extra armour, and if so what part of the ship was improved?

There was some extra splinter protection added but the main weight increase was due to extra AA guns and ammo, extra fuel, extra sensors, added AAA directors and improved HADTs ( Mk5 on DoY, Howe, Anson and then MK 6 on Anson) and lots of crew, extra paint and stores that remained elusive to determine with exactitude.
