Command/admirals bridge
Hi!
I am wondering which bridge this clip is from (1:16:39):
It looks like the bridge just bellow the armored helm. The kommandobrücke.
Is there any interior photos from the admirals bridge on any of the german battleships/cruisers?
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Bracer

Re: Command/admirals bridge
Hi Bracer,
why do you say it was taken from a bridge ? AFAIK, the photo was taken from the first level of the superstructure (deckhouse).
This is the original photo (cropped and in low definition, just to be able to post it). It shows however the 105 mm AA guns hanging over the photographer, thus he was positioned lower than any "bridge" when taking the image.
I know that Antonio Bonomi has identified the exact position of the photographer (around mid ship) in his photos analysis and battle reconstruction.

Hi Alberto!
Thank you for the answer!
If you start the video, then at the time 1:16:39 it shows photage from the interior.
This is the spot I'm wondering about.
Kind regards,
Bracer

Re: Command/admirals bridge
Hello everybody,
@ Bracer,
since we are going pretty soon on another thread to discuss about this photo, here you have the correct information.
The 105 mm A/A gun barrels taken on the photo are those ones circled in RED, referencing a pic form the original PG Rheinubung film :
The correct photographer position was consequently this one on the bridge right above the main deck, where the boats were stowed at midship, aside the hangar and right below the airplane catapult.
In RED you see again the 105 mm A/A gun barrels taken in the photo but this time in a lower position, and in GREEN you can see the photographer estimated position :
Hope all is clear now.
Bye Antonio

Gents, please pardon my badly formulated question.
But José wrote correct.
Please watch the movie at 1:16:39 and you will see the interior clip I am asking help with.
Thanks for helping!

Hi Bracer,
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought you were speaking about the photo, as we were discussing this topic recently..... My fault.
I must say I'm not an expert of Bismarck (or German ships in general) interior arrangements and I cannot really help here. Possibly some of our German (or German ship experts) members can give you a hint of where (and on which ship, as I'm not sure it was Bismarck...) the clip sequence was taken.

Re: Command/admirals bridge
Hello everybody,
@ Bracer,
sorry, I just responded to Alberto invitation, ... which I liked a lot about that photo, ... without realizing your real request.
Easy answer anyhow, that is the Gneisenau taken in Kieler Fjorde during the strong winter on January 1940. You have plenty of the in board and out board sequences including that one.
The bridge should be the Kommandant bridge on the Gneisenau, by looking at the front window.
Many times to realize those documentaries they just take all they can from propaganda available videos creating all sort of confusion after, ... unfortunately.
On you tube you search for : Schlachtschiff in fahrt

Enjoy it and bye, ... Antonio

Isn't this the kommandant bridge? Note the periscope. From Scharnhorst:
From Schlachtshiff in Fahrt, same windows, probably Gneisenaus bridge then:
From the Bismarck documentary:
What is the to first photos if not the kommandobrucke?
Kind regards,
Bracer

Re: Command/admirals bridge
Hello everybody,
@ Bracer,
the key to realize where and on which warship you are is on the windows shape and look and of course on the first photo you are looking at the Scharnhorst during pre-war ( ship name on the cap ).
The second and the third photos should be the of the Gneisenau consequently, and the propaganda film was recorded on her, so it helps confirming it too.
I assume that for Kommandobrucke you mean the structure just ahead of the conning tower with the periscope on top of it ( ref. photo 1 ).
We are not talking the admiral bridge that in the case of Scharnhorst did receive a similar type of windows when it was closed on 1942.
The differences of the windows as said determines which ship is which between the Scharnhorst and the Gneisenau.
Bye Antonio

Re: Command/admirals bridge
Hi Antonio!
Yes, that's the structure I mean.
I assume it's that one because the admirals brucle doesn't have periscopes.
The third photo has different windows, more space between them, and is a much deeper room. Can it possibly be the kommandobrucke of Bismarck?
Is there any known photos from the admirals bridge on Scharn/Gnei/Bisma/Tirpitz?
Kind regards,
Bracer

Re: Command/admirals bridge
Yes, I think you are correct.
This is a photo capture from a 1940 German newsreel "Die Deutsche Wochenschau" about the Bismarck. See minute 02:52 in the following video:
https://www.facebook.com/battleshipbism ... 448775562/
It shows the protected bridge ("Schutzstand für Schiffsführung") in the forward bridge deck, which was one deck below the armored conning tower. I think the window in the photo corresponds to the one in the middle in the drawing below.
Re: Command/admirals bridge
Great video José! I have missed that one.
Yes, it has to be that bridge!
Does anyone know of any photo from the admirals bridge, from any german battleship or cruiser?
Thanks for the help everyone!

Re: Command/admirals bridge
Hi guys!
Does anyone know what these, marked in red, panels are?
The photo is from Scharnhorst, but I imagine Bismarck would have panels with the same function in it's command bridge.
Cheers!

Re: Command/admirals bridge
Here's a better look at one of the panels:
Any ideas what it does?
It seems to switch between Z, S and V.
Can it mean Zuruck, Stopp, Voreres?
