As this is a website connected to nautical matters, people may be interested in a press article I saw yesterday.
Marine biologists at the Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand, are defrosting a frozen specimen of a Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni, which is a colossal squid found in the Southern Ocean.
Apparently one of the squids two eyes is intact - it is 11 inches (28 cm) across and has a lens the size of an orange. The squid itself is 26 feet (8 metres) long and weighs close on half a ton.
Imagine catching one of these on your fishing line.......

Re: Largest eye on Earth found
Very interesting. Thanks.
Re: Largest eye on Earth found
Nuclear submarines have accidentally run into trawler nets before. Imagine the impression it would have made as the trawler begins being dragged backwards!
Re: Largest eye on Earth found
A few years ago there was a suggestion that the trawler Gaul, which vanished without trace, was sunk by a Soviet submarine fouling the Gaul's nets and pulling the trawler down.
