An archaeology student has uncovered the body of an Australian soldier 91 years after he died on the Western Front in action in WW1.
The skeleton, dressed in full military kit, was discovered in an excavation of German trenches near St Yvers, Belguim. The trenches were attacked by the Australian third division on the morning of 7th June 1917 as part of the battle of Messines.
This is the first find of a full body for some years and so far remains unidentified. Items found with the body included a German pickelhaube - a spiked helmet - which is believed to have been taken as a trophy.
