Re: The Climate Change agenda

Britain is currently shivering in a Siberian blast and as usual with these cold snaps ice and snow is causing havoc with the British economy. Its Britains' coldest March since 1969 and Spring will be very late this year.

The ''climate change propagandists' were banging on a few years ago about Britains' early Springs, starting before the close of February. Their silence in the current severe weather is deafening.

A friend I have in Norway told me the same thing. A friend out in Idaho told me that they had the coldest Jan on record this year where he lives. The local weather person said that this was the coldest Jan here since 1949. Right now its snowing and we had 0*f last night. But its the long term trends that matter, not a hurricane, or a cold winter, or a hot summer, and that is what the scientists in the blog are debating. This is exactly the kind of information my old geologist friend who attained a PHD in climatology was trying to teach me and that's why I found this blog so interesting. These guys audit the data behind the studies that are behind the "hockey stick" up tick of graphs of the popular climate change models and published articles. In 15 years of research there is no proven link between the mythical hockey stick and the actual data. It is very technical and if you have better things to do, here is what is going on right now in the blog.

Right now in the blog is a critic of a recent article by two new phds from Oregon that claim to verify the hockey stick. An audit of their data actually shows no such thing and they made several grave mistakes in their research. They are being used by the pro global warming crowd it is obvious. The timing of the release of their research is not coincidental. It was meant to over shadow the release of a pass word to other scientists to the data and the emails proving that top climate change scientists conspired to lie about data they had that showed there was no significant if any global warming caused by man made emissions. The link between the up tick in temps, if it exists, and Co2 emissions fails in the absence of a verfiable up tick inconsistent with established long term trends.

Update on this week's topic in the climate audit blog:

http://climateaudit.org/

The issue is the quality of research behind a published study which purports to show that there is strong concensus of scientists who believe that man made co2 emissions are driving climate change and those which are skeptics (only 20%) are just crack pots anyway. The research base was only an invitation to participate in an online survey posted on a handful of mostly pro global warming blogs. One blog, thought to be skeptic,* was said to be the primary sample base to get skeptics to participate, but the invitation was in fact never posted publically. Instead the data, if it can be called such, may have been culled from a private log on filter, or just manafactured. At any rate there's no line of evidence as cited in actuality.

* The blog in question is not actually a blog created by skeptics for skeptics, but is best described as a bait blog. It is designed to attract skeptical scientists to participate so that they can be indentified and eventually discredited. Only 7% of the posts can be described as skeptical. And to register one most state your views as pro or skeptic.

In other words it is about propaganda and not fact.

And if it is about advocacy then it is not about science at all.

It is such a powrerful tool to push modern marxism that todays marxists can't let objective science get in the way. On this day, this qoute is fitting: "There is nothing more obstinate than a fashionable consensus."

Here in beautiful Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada, it was -17 C this am. In Regina Saskatchewan just 240km south of Saskatoon, it was -20 C this morning. That is the coldest ever recorded since 1893.

In Saskatoon, our first snow fall that stuck around was October 22, 2012. Here it is April 9th, and we are expecting a snow fall tomorrow. There is still an average of 2 1/2 feet of snow in the back yard, and I still have a 6ft high snow pile in the front.

Global warming my back side.

The alarmists have that covered too Jack B:
The Sun UK Newspaper
“BRITAIN’S winters are getting colder because of melting Arctic ice, the Government’s forecaster said yesterday.
“Met Office chief scientist Julia Slingo said climate change was “loading the dice” towards freezing, drier weather — and called publicly for the first time for an urgent investigation.”
Prof Slingo said: “If you look at the way our weather patterns have behaved over the past four or five years, we’re beginning to think that there is something happening. “

Prof Slingo said: “If you look at the way our weather patterns have behaved over the past four or five years, we’re beginning to think that there is something happening.
………..
“Our climate is being disrupted by the warming of the Arctic that we have observed very dramatically since 2007.

“We should pull together the best scientists to see how we can detect the influence of the Arctic on the jet stream, and on weather around the world"
It absolutely ridiculous that climate trends can be infered from four years of weather. Weather events such as cold snaps, heat waves, hurricanes, severe storms,...ect... have been going on for a very long time and will go on for a very long time. Its quite a stretch to link recent weather with long term climate and even more of a stretch to prove a link between possible recent trends in long term climate and the carbon emission via human activity.

Your observations are in line with deep sea core sample data. These data indicate a cooler trend during the 20th century relative to the long term mean. This inconvienent fact is left out of these fashoinable global climate models indicating catshrophic warming, however.

The most recent blog posts are pointing out that it is a classic case of cherry picking data to support a result demanded by the politics. It's actually worse than just using certain data sets, and ignoring contrary sets, because they are actually using proxies known to be faulty and/or contaminated, and in some case falsifying or at least modifying the data to fit the desired result.

In some of the recent posts they have exposed how critical data has been left out of studies and climate models. For example, the climate models which show catastrophic warming also show that with a doubling of co2 in the atmosphere it would cause a short term spike in temps followed by a long term settling within the the margin of error for the long term mean. This is left out of headline grabbing articles. No need for all the draconian Gov policies and the unabated march toward enviro-marxism.

Gentlemen,
I think the problem is that there are a reletivly small amount of people with mainly left wing or liberal views who make a lot of noise, be it on climate change, eating meat, field sports, weapons (particularly nuclear), or whatever. Unfortunately some members in Governments take too much notice and act accordingly so as to appear 'Green' to voters. To me it's a load of tosh, people are not going to give up their cars and do their weeks shopping on bicycles, they are not suddenly going to start eating only vegetables, stop shooting or fishing and all the anti nuclear bods conveniently forget that even if every country scrapped its weapons, they will never forget how to make them. As for wind turbines - don't get me started on their uselessness!

I think the problem outlined in the previous post is becoming somewhat more muted in the UK, particulary as the ''Green'' vote isn't substantially rising and the ''Field Sports'' issue has now vanished completely.
What is more of a problem are vested interest groups, particulary in academia and in quangos, who have to compete for funding largely provided for by he taxpayer. The hyperbole they generate is to justify the expenditures they command. Most quangos have a vested interest in not achieving their official goals, because it would render them redundant. Their real goal is empire building and not problem solving which diminishes their role and importance..

The following is very much like a conversation I had with my PHD geologist friend at the university. The professor here also touches on the economic costs of useless solutions to a crisis that doesn't really exist.

author’s credentials:

Ian Rutherford Plimer is an Australian geologist, professor emeritus of earth sciences at the University of Melbourne, professor of mining geology at the University of Adelaide, and the director of multiple mineral exploration and mining companies. He has published 130 scientific papers, six books and edited the Encyclopedia of Geology.

Born 12 February 1946 (age 67)
Residence Australia
Nationality Australian
Fields Earth Science, Geology, Mining Engineering
Institutions University of New England,University of Newcastle,University of Melbourne,University of Adelaide
Alma mater University of New South Wales,Macquarie University
Thesis The pipe deposits of tungsten-molybdenum-bismuth in eastern Australia (1976)
Notable awards Eureka Prize (1995, 2002),Centenary Medal (2003), Clarke Medal (2004)

Where Does the Carbon Dioxide Really Come From?
Professor Ian Plimer could not have said it better!
If you've read his book you will agree, this is a good summary.

PLIMER: "Okay, here's the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland. Since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet - all of you.

Of course, you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress - it’s that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans and all animal life. I know....it's very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kids "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50 cent light bulbs with $10.00 light bulbs.....well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth's atmosphere in just four days - yes, FOUR DAYS - by that volcano in Iceland has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud at any one time - EVERY DAY.

I don't really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in all its years on earth.

Yes, folks, Mt Pinatubo was active for over One year - think about it.

Of course, I shouldn't spoil this 'touchy-feely tree-hugging' moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keeps happening despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.

And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud, but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year.

Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you, on the basis of the bogus 'human-caused' climate-change scenario.
Hey, isn’t it interesting how they don’t mention 'Global Warming' Anymore, but just 'Climate Change' - you know why? It’s because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past century and these global warming bull artists got caught with their pants down.

And, just keep in mind that you might yet have an Emissions Trading Scheme - that whopping new tax - imposed on you that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer.
It won’t stop any volcanoes from erupting, that’s for sure.

But, hey, relax......give the world a hug and have a nice day!"

Interesting too, is that those coiled fluorescent bulbs we have been forced to buy in recent years, all contain more toxic materials than ANY of the standard vacuum-incandescent bulbs we've used for many decades. Before the global warming zealots began brainwashing the Facebook Generation, just breaking one of these new bulbs was sufficient cause to concern hazmat specialists! That is, until the government hushed them in the interest of the powers-that-be pocketbooks!
