2018 and 2022 world cups go to......

Post by Gary »

The FIFA 2018 world cup is to be held in Russia
The 2022 tournament will be in Qatar.

I think Russia could give us a good world cup but what sort of tempertures will we have in Qatar for 2022?

I never seriously expected England to get the 2018 cup.
The rumours are that our bid never made it beyond the 1st round of voting.
Blatter hates us as do many of the FIFA delegates.
I thought Spain/Portugal would have won (even though I dont agree with joint bids)

Rusia is a legitimate choice and they could give a good World Cup and they can even be a favorite by then.

Quatar is a political correct decision. There has been one cup in Asia, one in Africa (one of the worst as scenario I have ever seen) and the tournament must go to popular and natural places as Brasil, Europe and then back again to please the globalized mass media bozos. Of course Quatar have the money... but would they even exist by the moment the tournament is going to be held? Mexico, Spain: get prepared, you never know!

I have no objections to Brasil holding the 2014 cup.
They are the backbone of the world cup - the only nation to play at every tournament.
I also dont object to Russia as I believe they will do a very good job.

But as Karl said, Qatar is nothing more than a political choice

And Qatar will obviously pose security issues, particulary if the US team is there.

Mind you I am a little disappointed that they couldn't have considered North Korea as the Asian country - thaqt would have been interesting.

I hope Israel qualify (Qatar apparently dont recognise Israel as a state)
Oh and whilst its not my cup of tea no gay fans will be able to travel there (Qatar has laws against that)

Well done FIFA for a splendid politically motivated choice of venue for 2022

Makes you wonder where 2026 will be held? - Franz Josef land perhaps?

North Korea of course - if that regime lasts that long.

There are now rumours that there will be talks to consider wether or not to move the 2022 world cup forward to January instead of June!!!
That will SUCK big time if that happens!
Dont think FIFA really thought through this politically motivated choice of Venue :stubborn:

It would suck in England - for the leading premiership clubs who would lose their leading players! But those clubs in the relegation zone then get a better chance, will they not?

Hi RF.

Sorry for the late response.
If such a plan went ahead, I think FIFA would order an extended winter break for all the domestic football to allow for the disruption.
Hence why I am against such an idea.
The world cup should never have been awarded to Qatar :stubborn:

Gary, if there is an extended winter break, that implies the end of the season would have to be extended - would it therefore finish before the August start of the next season?

Hi RF.

I can imagine they would try to cram in as many mid week fixtures as possible to attempt to catch up.
Moving the 2022 WC forward to January of that year may or may not happen - I dont know, its just a rumour that was circulating on football sites.
But it must have been hot in Mexico in 1986? - is Qatar summer heat much worse?

That will cause problems with injuries and the quality of football if the main players cannot get enough rest......
