RAF Shackletons

Post by paul.mercer »

Gentlemen,
The last Coastal command Shackletons were retired sometime in the early 1990's, I believe that some still had the RR Griffon engines as well as turboprops, I wonder where the RAF got their spares (or complete spare engines) from, bearing in mind that Merlin and Griffon engines had not been made for many years? I understand that spares for Merlin engines can still be made in the USA, but I'm not sure if this applies to the Griffon.

You might write the Shackleton Association:

Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood and Earth's foundations stay;
What God abandoned these defended;
And saved the sum of things for pay.
