Is there an English translation of this article?
''Give me a Ping and one Ping only'' - Sean Connery.
Re: Manfred Rommel has died.
Sorry, I am not aware of a translation of this article, although there are now several English language ones up on line in a similar vein.

Re: Manfred Rommel has died.
The article does not mention Erwin Rommel at all. It focuses on Manfred Rommel only, mentioning that he was a highly respected local politician.
Re: Manfred Rommel has died.
Actually it does mention the field marshal in passing:
Der CDU-Politiker, Sohn des als „Wüstenfuchs“ bekannten Generalfeldmarschalls Erwin Rommel, der von Adolf Hitler zum Selbstmord gezwungen wurde. . .

Re: Manfred Rommel has died.
Yes of course it mentions he was the son of the desert fox. But that is the only thing - there is no further comment on the relations to his father or events in WW2.
According to the article, Manfred Rommel was well respected across all political camps. Interesting side note, he endorsed the burial of the highly disliked members of the "Rote Armee Fraktion" (=leftish terror organization of the 70ies) after their suicides in his (and theirs?) home town.

Re: Manfred Rommel has died.
Indeed, the burial and service for the dead RAF terrorists was highly controversial at the time and brought Rommel a certain amount of criticism from the public, however he responded by saying, "I am of the opinion that all wrath, justified as it may be, must end with death and that there are no first- and second-class graveyards and that all graveyards are the same."

Re: Manfred Rommel has died.
Some of the English language newspapers have included his account of his last meeting with his father and how Hitler had effectively murdered his father. The Telegraph in the UK included copies of Manfred's signed deposition on the matter from his debreifing by Allied Intel after he turned himself in to Free French troops.

Re: Manfred Rommel has died.
There is, or at least was when I was in Germany 45 years ago, something of a reluctance to devote much print space to matters dealing with Third Reich.

Re: Manfred Rommel has died.
I think we need to be careful with the use of initials to avoid possible misunderstandings and people being inadvertently offended particulary in countries like mine where these particular initials have a more widely known different meaning and the Red Army Faction here is largely unknown.tommy303 wrote:Indeed, the burial and service for the dead RAF terrorists
