We shall see.

David Davis was a staunch supporter of John Major in the early 1990's who pushed Tory MP's hard into voting through the Maastricht Treaty.

Like Boris Johnson is he a true believer or just an own career promoter?

To all in the UK who voted to leave the EU, I salute you in taking your country back! Unchecked immigration drives down wages of all workers. Good for businesses with the added benefit to an ever increasing voting block for lib politicians. Hold their feet to the fire and don't let them drag out the exit.

Since this forum is read internationally the term lib or liberal might cause confusion. In the US and Canada the term means often the equivalent to socialist, certainly left of center politically leaning, and usually pro-big government. It is kind of misleading of the meaning as it is applied classically (certainly nothing envisioned by John Locke) and in most other places in the world. Sometimes the term is substituted by the term progressives, but since they seem to want to "progress" toward something more like Cuba or the late DDR I personally have started using the term Regressives.

Gentlemen,
Now the referendum is over the country is beginning to take stock of the future and much to the surprise of the 'Remainers' it isn't proving to be so bleak after all. I voted 'Leave' because I realised that the EU was nothing like the original EEC that we signed up for in the 70's, since becoming the EU it has become an ever expanding empire that has designs on becoming a Federal United States of Europe run from Brussels with Germany calling the shots - as they already do now and as long as the EU has people like Juncker and Tusk in the Commission they will continue to swallow up more countries, (haven't we been there before not so long ago?)
Frankly, with the latest row over immigration into Europe and with country after country closing their borders I think that there are several EU countries that are seriously considering their position about remaining in the EU, particularly as it is becoming more and more dictatorial and I wouldn't be surprised to see the whole rotten system collapse and I have to say I would be the first to cheer!
As for the UK and GB in particular, we've often lived through difficult times in the past and survived even if the Scots b... off and do their own thing, it would be a greater loss to them then to us, especially if they have to join the failing Euro.
Lets get on and trigger article 50 and get out!

I don't think its a surprise to them at all. Its simply that they didn't want Britain to be an independent country because it could mean that they lose their EU funding.....

The whole ''remain'' campaign was based on fear and intimidation of voters, with HM Government playing a key role in this by forcing the supposedly non-political civil service to support ''remain'' and by spending some £9 million of taxpayers money on Government propaganda leaflets delivered to every household.
Stand back from the media hullabaloo and you could see that the ''remain'' case was rather like the fable about the Emporer and his fine clothes. I must admit that I was very pleasantly surprised by the result, the media campaign of manipulation by fear and intimidation of voters came close to succeeding. I can remember the 1975 EEC referendum and the ''yes to Europe'' campaign was similar, but without the desperation and open bullying of the ''remain'' campaign - this time it was really over the top and people did react against it.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the Scots wanting to leave the UK -simply more ''remain'' scaremongering.

Look at a few figures.

More Scots voted to remain in the UK than voted to remain in the EU - the Scottish independence referendum had a higher turnout of voters.

Over 1 million Scots voted to leave the EU, some 38% of the total Scottish vote. Some 36% of Scottish National Party voters voted for ''leave,'' in spite of the entire SNP leadership and Westminster MP's all vociferously supporting ''remain.''

There can't be another Scottish independence referendum without the consent of HM Government - and the new Prime Minister has said there won't be one.

The leadership of the SNP are opportunists and career seekers. Before Alex Salmond came along the SNP was hostile to the EEC and many SNP voters still reflect that.

So Scotland will leave the EU when the rest of the UK does regardless of whatever piffle the Scottish First Minister says..

With respect to Article 50 - when if ever will it be activated? A UKIP Government would simply repeal the European Communities Act of 1972, so Article 50 becomes a mere technicality. If HM Government wanted to Britain could leave the EU today by scrapping the 1972 Act.

From what I'm reading, if Teresa Merkel ..... oh, excuse me ..... Teresa MAY slow-walks the Brexit process much longer, there is a possibility that there will actually be no EU to withdraw from.

Then what will she do?????

She doesn't want withdrawal.

The ''withdrawal agreement'' she is trying to push through Parliament would create the fiction of withdrawal by removing all UK representation in the EU while the UK remains fully subject to EU law and pays in to the EU budget until the year 2064. There would be no right to enter into separate trade deals such as those wanted by the USA, Japan and numerous other countries until after 2064 at the earliest.

The proposed arrangement, which has been dictated to her by the EU (and accepted by her without argument), will turn the UK into an EU vassel state and is designed to prevent other EU members from leaving by showing them what would happen if they tried.

EU proposals to take over the UK's armed forces and police into a European force will eventually go through with the rest of the EU, our legal process will be overridden.

We would actually be better off by sticking with the current membership position and not ''leaving.''

Be clear - it is the politicians that are doing this. They are overriding and subverting the result of a democratic vote they all promised to respect. They can do that because they know they will keep their places in Parliament at the next election because at the moment there isn't a credible alternative for people to vote for. But things can change in that respect...….

Hi everyone,
Totally agree with everything that has been written, the MP's who are determined to wreck 'Brexit' are a disgrace, if the Euro elections do go ahead it will be interesting to see how Farage's 'Brexit Party' gets on. Given the current dissatisfaction with the way the EU is run from a number of countries who are veering to the Right (or Far Right in some cases),i suspect that there will be considerable upheaval amongst the 'Status Quo' in the EU Parliament and hopefully in its Commission as well. Personally, I can for see that unless there are great changes in the EU the whole rotten edifice will collapse, along with the struggling Euro which really only benefits Germany, who as some predicted has risen to dominate Europe yet again.

These MP's are all elected by UK voters. The key question is - will the voters throw them out at the next General Election? Without a credible and properly organised Brexit Party this isn't going to happen, these MP's know it and because they can get away with it they will carry on as they are.

The recent by-election in Newport graphically shows the scenario. Plenty of Brexit candidates.... who shared some 10% of the vote between them. These MP's can laugh in the face of such a result.
