What's the rules on doing a remake of a popular book or movie as the basic plot for a WWII scenario?
I mean, like, really obvious rip-off of the basic plot and transposing it into a hypothetical fiction story here?

You're free and clear to do it. With a quick search http://justinelarbalestier.com/blog/200 ... dor-ideas/ is a damn good explanation.
PS: HOW did I manage to put that link in LIST tags originally? HOW?

Re: Hypothetical story rules?
Just this morning, I decided to go for real publication, probably as an e-book on Amazon.
Gomen nasai (sorry in Japanese).
But your link is most encouraging that I won't be accused of ripping off a popular author, and I'll be careful to make sure I don't actually plagiarize any lines out of his book.
I need to build it up to at least 55K words and fill it in a bit more first though.
If I change my mind, I promise I'll post it here and not anywhere else.
You guys really know your stuff.
