H-Klasse Battleship

Post by miro777 »

hey
wat do u think if the H-class battleships and the J-class battlecruisers would have been completed and took part in the war....

do u think any ship constallation (eg POW and Hood and KGV) would have a chance against two H-class battleships?

hahaha i doubt it, those would have been THE ultimate battlships....

Against 20" caliber guns nothing is a match: a KGV would look like a lifeboat. Somewhere in this site is a composed photo of the Tirpitz alonside a H class.

You can find it in the main forum, look for the Spanish Section: "Acorazado Bismarck", inside is a topic called "Los acorazados H ¿alguien sabe algo?" and look for a reply of "cascokuro" and voilá!
Best regards.

H and J classe look like big targets for dive bombers and torpedo bombers - thats their weakness.

The Germans would have done better building H and J classe supercarriers that would make Graf Zeppelin in comparison look like a VTOL strip.

In theory, the H-Class despicted in the fictional comparison photo above was a 130,000 ton behemoth (almost twice of an Yamato and more than twice an Iowa) with so much armour the Allies woud need to throw an atomic bomb from a B-29 to do any harm to her. A bomb like the one thrown to Tirpitz would damage her, but not sink her.

"H" would have been about the size of Yamato, but not so heavily armed.

There were many evolutions of the H design. One of them was the 130,000 ton superbattleship that is potraited in the fictional photo seen above. Yamato was half that vessel.

The later "H" designs were for ships that could not be built. H-41 with 16.5in guns was the final product that anyone considered practical, but she was never begun.

Building the actual ship is something quite different than sketching up a few drawings. I think the Germans should have concentrated on ships with two twin 380mm turrets on a 15,000 design protected against 6-8"shell fire

I believe that Barnes Wallis' 'Grand Slam' bombs could capsize her. Otherwise the underwater mines planted by midget subs that crippled Tirpitz would get her.
