Reported in the Defense Blog "Information Dissemination" The Chinese Navy has refloated the Ex Soviet Carrier Varyag. The carrier had been in dry dock since 2005. It is reported that carrier has a new propulsion system installed and much of the carrier's interior has been redone. Plus the island has been modified to incorporate some type of AESA radar.
The ship was purchased back in 1998 from the Ukraine to be reportedly used at a floating casino. Recently China had constructed a mock Varyag island and deck at one of its Naval Air Bases.
So it is looking more likely that it will re-enter service sometime in the next few years. It will be interesting how this will change the USN and Taiwan’s approach to China's Blue Water expansion.

Kyler, this largely appears to be ''reported information'' that the ship has been effectively completely re-built (why not build one from scratch?) and from the way it is reported I am wondering at the accuracy of the original sources.
