I think that - considering their strength vis-a-vis the Block IIA Burke-class destroyers (which are still in production) - the Zumwalt class should be redesignated as guided missile cruisers. Call it CG-74 & onwards.
Just because it's stupid, futile and doomed to failure, that doesn't mean some officer won't try it.

If you read the latest information on this class, it has been found wanting in the role of area air defense, if it was ever ment for that role. The ship is designed for littoral combat to attack land targets in the main while having sufficient AA protection to defend itself. It will not be BMD capable, nor is it primary radar designed for anything else other than self protection. The fact that it hull is based on a old defunct unstable design long since disregarded as unsuitable for stable gun platforms using the excuse that it is stealthy makes me wonder if it is going to be a unfortunate white elephant that will unfortunately spell the final death of N.G.S.
