surviving Bismarck crewmembers

Post by Hans Hessler »

This is a great site, far better than the others I have viewed.
I have a question: in viewing the names of the Bismarcks crew
they are listed as being survivors or killed aboard the Bismarck.
The survivors names are listed in blue, only on a few of the
survivors can you click and find additional information on them.
Why are not all the survivors names clickable so we can get
additional on them as well. I'm new to your site and I'm
looking to exploring your site further in the future.
Thanks;

Hans

The information presumably isn't there or available for this website. Remember that the info provided is largely from family sources.

There are publications in Germany and indeed eleswhere where greater information is given but of course protected under copyright. You also have to take into account the sensitivities and privacy of the famillies involved, some are happy for information to be published, others feel that personal tragedy suffered is enough without raking over the past again. And some may feel that profit is being made out of their loss, and that that isn't right.

Does anybody, by chance, know what families wouldn't mind being contacted? I've been looking all over for Veterans (no matter the country) just so I can hear their stories and possible do a little reaserch after listening to them. If anyone know's I'd greatly appreciate a reply. :?:

Probably best to go through official channels and contact the official survivor organisations for the ships in question, where they exist. However it is likely that they have to field numerous requests for approaches to survivors and their relatives.
