How many if any crewmembers of Bismarck are still alive?
How many if any crewmembers of Bismarck are still alive?
I was wondering how many crewmen are still alive? It would seem as the ship was sunk almost 70 years ago, that not many would be alive. Does anyone have that information?

As far as I am aware, there are no Bismarck survivors left - seventy years on.

When I visited Josef Kaiser in January we counted the survivors he knows and which are still living. IIRC it was about 4 or 5.

Thank you both for the information. As it is seventy years since the sinking, I would expect that there would be very few of the 118 (or so) survivors still with us.

Another sad news...
On September 29 Otto Höntzsch passed away at the age of 93. I received an invitation from Ottos family to the memorial service scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 05 at 1400hrs in the chapel on the Pattensen cemetry near Winsen/Luhe. The funeral will be in approx. 14 days in a woodland cemetry.
My sincerest sympathy goes out to family and friends. Rest in peace, Otto, I feel so lucky to have known you - if only I would have met you earlier.
Best ~ Olaf!
