In Memoriam Heinz Steeg

Post by Ulrich Rudofsky »

Our contributor Malte Gaack sent a message that Bismarck survivor HEINZ STEEG has passed away 25.11.2004. The passing of WW II veterans is progressing now at an accelrated rate and it is the normal way of life. Mr. Steeg was burried at sea as he had wished. Bismarck survivor Josef Statz, in his book "Schlachtschiff Bismarck" states: "Heinz Steeg was our good spirit aboard Dorsetshire! He was everywhere and helped everyone. And above all he knew the language well and was our translator." Mr. Steeg was respected by his former adversaries and became an honorary member of the Royal Naval Association in London. After the war he was the founder of the “Bismarck Kameradschaft”. He was a real sailor.
