As I'm sure you guys all know last year was the 100th anniversary of HMS Vanguards sinking.
You can now download the survey report from the wreck.Interesting pictures.

As I have posted elsewhere "If anyone would like to download arguably one of the very best presented underwater survey's of a shipwreck (that I certainly have ever seen) suggest you sign up for it here.

Yes, you have to give a name and email address to get it, but..............................worth it in spades!

And no, I don't have a dog in the fight whatsoever, just sharing the link that anyone with a naval historical survey bent should (must?) see........................so, sign up and see for yourself, and I'll be happy to be proven wrong!"

Glad you enjoyed it!

I had been looking/waiting for the survey to be released for the last 8 months! The computer reconstructions of the sonar results are incredible! To be actually able to see the gun cradles with such clarity is incredible! I did find it strange that all of the barbettes/gunhouses were pretty much upright - HMS Invincible's "P" and "Q" are either on their side up upside down as are HMS Audacious's from memory. A shame that she has been so thoroughly salvaged, however , luckily not so much that nothing recognisable was left.

Why the RN allowed salvage of a war grave is beyond me. I see that unauthorised salvage of ex RN ships continues to occur.....

Enjoyed it? That would be an understatement!!!!! Have been there, done that (on other wrecks), but our surveys, or the ones published, while good at the time conducted between 8 and 16 years ago, wouldn't hold a candle to this one!

Bummer. They are adding insult to injury out in those waters now!
