Names of the Ersatz Yorck-class ships?

Post by AdmiralSemmes »

It may be a useless endeavour, but I'm interested in finding out if there is any way of knowing what names the ships of the Ersatz Yorck class battlecruisers?

Hi Admiral Semmes,

According to German Warships by Erich Groner revised by Dieter Jung and Martin Maas, Ersatz Yorck would have been joined by Ersatz Scharnhorst and Ersatz Gneisenau. Since one of the previous but uncompleted Mackensens was to be named Graf Spee, I would guess they might have retained these placeholder names upon completion to honour those lost vessels.

All broken up on the slips.

All the best
