Number D83

Post by neale »

Hi There,

First Post on this Naval Forum.

Have a photo of a ship which has D83 on it's midships stbd side.

Went looking for this number and only found HMS Broke which sank in 1942 after taking damage.

Photo has date 1951 on it so it can't be that ship although the image looks like the same class.....What do I know! Hence why I hope some member can shed some light on this for me.

Cheers.
Chris.

Perhaps your photo is of HMS Ulster, a War Emergency Programme "U"-class destroyer, completed in late WWII. From here, you can check a number of Internet resources and/or books, to obtain confirmation.

Wishing you success,

Dan

Hi Dan,

Many thanks for a starting point, found the following:

May 1951 HMS Ulster Transferred for service in Dartmouth Training Squadron. Deployed for Cadet and Midshipman training. (Ref. to Naval History Net)

I know now this is the correct ship as the photograph was taken at Dartmouth in Sept. 1951.

Many thanks.
