HMS Ark Royal was struck by one torpedo from a Uboat 18 miles from Gibraltar- was abandoned BEFORE it was realised that the ship could have been saved by some quick, rational thinking;as it was key crew members were taken off the ship and the ship itself left in disarray vis a vis opened bulkhead doors, etc. When the captain pulled himself together and sent back the damage control men- it was too late for various reasons related to water entering the ship for too long and a list could not be corrected. She was lost via negligence IMO.and thus unlucky!!
