Jutland - a fight to the finish?

Post by paul.mercer »

Gentlemen,
At the risk of encroaching on another thread regarding the greatest naval battle in history it would seem that although Jutland had one of the greatest number of ships it was probably also the greatest non event as neither side really got to grips with one another, with that in mind, any thoughts on the result if the Grand and High Seas Fleets had decided to fight to the finish?

After the first "battle turn-away", what if the German line had done a corpen-right to 270 and said, "Come and get it!"?
Just because it's stupid, futile and doomed to failure, that doesn't mean some officer won't try it.

There would have been fewer ships lying at the bottom of Scapa Flow, and Armistice Day celebrated on a different date.

Or maybe no ships lying at the bottom of Scapa Flow and no Armistrice or Treaty of Versailles...... just a German Imperial flag flying over Buckingham Palace instead....

There are too many uncertainties to be able to be certain of an outcome. The quote may have become true, just as my paragraph above might become the new history line.
