British outnumbered by the French

Postby MangroveCoast » Sun Aug 16, 2015 11:05 pm

What would have happened if a British flag ship Man of War had come up against 3 French naval frigates in 1800?

I presume you assuming the British ship is a First Rate? Under normal circumstances, I believe the French would have run away. It would be very difficult to coordinate frigate attacks on a ship of the line in such a way as not to get one isolated on the former at some point, and wrecked in a few minutes firing.
