New book from Tully: Surigao Strait
The guy from combined fleet and co author of Shattered Sword, Tony Tully has published a book about Surigao Strait. Just to let you all know about it. I expect to order it sometime this year.

I've read it and enjoyed it. Much like Shattered Sword it relies a lot on Japanese sources and differs from the "standard" interpretaion in a number of signficant ways. It's shorter than the earlier book but like it very readable. For anyone with a significan interest in Surigao Strait or Leyte Gulf in general I'd rate it as a must have. It's also very reasonably priced at a number of the online book sellers. Tully also has an online presence so it's very likely that you can get an autographed copy directly from the author.

I don't know how Borders or B&N are on international orders but if you haven't you might want to check them out. Both offer discounts to "members". B&N's membership program cost $30 I think but gets you 10% off of everything including sale prices and frequent coupons (usually about 15%) worth additional discounts. Borders doesn't cost anything and you get ~3% credit again they have frequent discounts usually in the 20-30% range but occasionally up to 40%. Both have internet sales and sometimes their internet prices are cheaper than their store front prices for at least some items. Worth comparing with Amazon in any case. Another possibility you might want to look at is special orders through a local book store. If the alternative is you buying via the internet they may be willing to cut you a deal especially as they should be able to save via bulk orders.
On the otherhand many authors get a fair number of copies of their works that they can sell or give away. Usually they sell them at list price but with an autograph. Buying direct from the author is often a good way to encourage them although it is usually more expensive than buying from one of the big on line stores.

Thanks for the tip. I have to go internet because the local libraries in Costa Rica are quite limited, to put it mildly. Gonna check, thanks!

Tiornu gave "ex utero" as his current location on this board.

I have the book "Fleets of World War II" from Richard. I have to buy the one of the rusky navy and the one of cruisers. I wonder if Richard is the same Richard that wrote some books about South Carolina, Stanley and Livingstone and the Massacre at Virginia Tech?
