Pirate Latitudes

Post by Gary »

Hi all

I finished reading Michael Crichtons "Pirate Latitudes" a few weeks ago

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pirate-Latitude ... 706&sr=1-1

This is a Fictional story set in 1665 in the then English colony of Jamaica.
A Privateer named Captain Charles Hunter and his motley crew are tasked by Jamaica's governor with the job of breaching a supposedly impregnable Spanish garrison and making off with a treasure ship that is loaded with goods from the New world to go back to Spain.
I wont spoil it too much for anyone wanting to read it but expect battles, a game of cat and mouse with a Spanish galleon, a visit to a island habited by poison dart firing head hunters, a tustle with a sea monster and an upheaval of an ending back in Port Royal (Jamaica).

All in all, it was a very readable book and apart from the sea monster bit it never delved into the ridiculous the way the "HMS Ulysses" novel did.
So if you have a taste for ships of sail, Pirates/Privateers and treasure hunting, this novel is for you!

Also, according to wikipedia the Renowned Steven Spielberg is contemplating turning this novel into a movie

Cheers folks

..... I take it that Port Royal is a "sub-plot" in a manner of speaking.

Yes, thats better. And a good review too, but I would prefer to read the book and make my own opinion.
