New book - The Rice Paddy Navy

Post by LindaKush »

I'm delighted to announce my new book.

The Rice Paddy Navy, published by Osprey Publishing, reveals the history of a top-secret joint project between U.S. Naval Intelligence and the Nationalist Chinese during World War II. Navy personnel were deployed to China to gather intelligence on Japan and collect weather data for the Pacific fleet. In exchange for Chiang Kai-shek’s help, the navy transformed 26,000 Chinese peasants and pirates into guerrilla soldiers. Together, the Americans and Chinese rescued downed Allied airmen, spied on Japan, and wreaked havoc on the Japanese occupation.

Captain Milton E. Miles, USN, and General Dai Li, spymaster for Chiang Kai-shek, formed the Sino-American Cooperative Organization, nicknamed "The Rice Paddy Navy," and became intimate friends. Meanwhile, U.S. Army General William Donovan tried unsuccessfully to integrate the OSS into SACO, only to alienate both Miles and Dai.

The Rice Paddy Navy is available through amazon.com and directly from the publisher at http://www.ospreypublishing.com.
