I was wondering if it was common for the bigger ships (ones which might carry large numbers of passengers) to sail from London to the US, or if most of the bigger ships left from other ports? Specifically, if you wanted to go to Boston, could you hop a ship from London proper, or would you need to get closer to the Channel? Which docks would you need to go to?
Thanks for any help, sorry if the question is ignorant, but I certainly am when it comes to this subject.
ships sailing from London to Boston in 1820-1850 range?

I would have thought Liverpool or Glasgow more likely than London.

I would think Bristol would have also been a major departing port as well.
