Submarine X-1

Post by José M. Rico »

Submarine X-1.
This movie was shown earlier today at about 23:00 hours CET on the German TV Channel "Das Vierte". I just saw the end of it when a British midget submarine destroys what it seemed to be a German pocket battleship hidden in a Norwegian fjord. Has anybody seen this movie? :D

Submarine X-1 was a terrible movie, for example the RN subs make the entire trip to Norway submerged...a much better telling of the attack on Tirpitz was "Above us the waves" starring John Mills, and you can find it online.

Yes I have seen this movie several times. The battleship was called ''Brandenburg.''

It is pure fiction. It included for example a Luftwaffe paratroop landing of six men to invade Scotland! - or rather destroy the sub.
This is the only WW2 film which shows the Germans launching commando raids....

If I recall correctly it also depicted an underwater knife fight between a British and German frogman, something which again as far as I know never actually happened in WW2 - unless someone can tell me different.
''Give me a Ping and one Ping only'' - Sean Connery.
