Song of the "Enemy Below"

Post by Karl Heidenreich »

No, it´s not a Hollywood creation. It´s a 18th Century song called "Der Dessauer March" but it is known also for the first line of the lyrics: "So leben wir".
I guess that solves the question.
Best Regards!

I am not a musician and don't have a good ear, but that Dessauer March sound quite a bit like the Shaker tune "Simple Gifts" http://manhattanbeachmusiconline.com/ma ... gifts.html and "I danced in the morning when the world was begun" http://www.heavenlyharpist.com/mp3/danced-morning.htm

Could it be that the German soldiers brought this tune here during the American Revolution ? This is one of my favorite melodies; no wonder I liked the march.
