1:1250 Miniature Ship Models
The miniature scale ship model hobby encompasses an enormous number of models. It is estimated that since the 1930's perhaps as many as 20,000 types and makes of these little ship models have been made by dozens of manufacturers, mostly metal castings by companies in Germany and Austria. Collections of 1000 - 3000 models are not unusual. I have been searching for the GOTLAND for some years, and recently came up with her. Three models of this historically pivotal ship were produced between the 1940’s and 1980’s: Wiking S478, Rhenania 90, Argonaut 707. The GOTLAND shown here, is a 1:250 model made by Argonaut in Germany. The BISMARCK is a scratch-built 1:1200 wood model made by John Youngerman in California. There will be a US collectors convention at the SUNY Maritime College's Maritime Industry Museum at Fort Schuyler in May. http://users.nac.net/nyc1250/
