Great New Kits Coming!

Post by paulcadogan »

Guys,

I don't know how many of you check the modeling sites, but for those who don't, just to give you the heads up:

In the near future we've got some great new releases coming out:

Academy:

1/350 Warspite - should be out within the next couple of months!

Image

Trumpeter:

1/350 and 1/700 RM Roma - the 1/700 should be out by May.

Image

It's very likely that Vittorio Veneto and/or Littorio will follow, based on Trumpeter's usual pattern....

AND...just announced from Trumpeter:

1/350 HMS Queen Elizabeth!! (Which means a 1/700 ia also in the offing) Not sure of when it will be released.

Image

Unfortunately for 1/700 builders, Academy does not do that scale, so unless another company such as Trumpeter does it, Warspite will only be available in resin in 1/700.

As expected, Pit Road/Trumpeter have announced their 1/700 Vittorio Veneto.

Also in the offing from Zvezda is a 1/350 Dreadnought.

The Trumpeter 1/700 Roma has been shipped. Not sure when it'll be available at retail though..

Here's a look at the kit:

Paul,

I was checking and it seems there are no news for these models. Any updates?

The Warspite is shown with the last refit conning tower.

The Trumpeter Roma is also 1:350. But I checked their webpage and there is nothing on it.

As for me I got some 21 model kits waiting and for being in these international assigments I haven't been able to continue. The Akagi has been left without the tower since december. A shame.

Nothing new on the 1/350 Queen Elizabeth or Dreadnought, but theres plenty on the Italian ships.

The 1/350 Roma is due in August - the "product update" is here:

Meanwhile Trumpeter seems to be releasing a 1/700 Littorio, due in September, before they do Vittorio Veneto:

I found a site that has the Academy Warspite due for the end of the year. And yes, she should be in her WW2 fit. I'm working on my WEM 1/700 resin Warspite. It's an absolutely beautiful kit - WEM really did a superb job with it - amazing detail and quite a challenge to build, but worth the effort!

Here's where I am now - still needing the masthead radar antennae, anchor chains, rails and a few other small PE parts....

No body can deny she was a beautiful lady. Your work is great!

Let's us all be in the loop. This is important.

And I hope that Trumpeteer will release sooner or later Rodney im 1:350!!!

Thanks Karl! Progress is slow as I'm really busy at this time.

The Pit Road 1/700 Roma is now available in Japan and the Trumpeter version should be out any time now. People have been wondering why they chose Roma first. I suspect it's because she's the least well-known of the Littorios, and they want to get the sales on her as the first Italian battleship model to be available in plastic. To me she's an important ship though....the first major warship sunk by what could be considered the first guided missile...

As an aside...imagine the venerable Warspite took a direct hit and near miss from the same weapon a few days later and SURVIVED! Tough ship!

I'll keep this thread updated as I find the info.

I saw that in the trumpeteer webpage two days ago. This particular company has been making their effort to have all these kits available. I hope Rodney will be ready some time soon.

No talk of Rodney anywhere just yet, although quite a few modellers have it/Nelson on their wish list. Could be a while, but if the trend continues maybe you'll be lucky.

Right now the only 1/350 Rodney around is the resin kit by Iron Shipwrights - US$450!! Have a look for the fun of it....

I only once paid so much money for a kit and it was Akagi. And it wasn't that much neither.

Hey,

For those clamouring for WW1 subjects here's one from out of left field that should be very interesting...

An company - as yet un-named - is planning a plastic 1/700 HMS Agincourt - 14 12-inch guns and all!

Got my 1/700 Roma kit today  Trumpeter has done a tremendous job - the detail on the upper hull is superb, though I've seen the comment that the portholes are wrong (nothing is ever perfect, is it!). It's got 11 sprues of parts - not including the hull, decks and aircraft - and a small photo-etch fret with funnel cap parts, cranes etc. The instruction booklet is 12 pages with 25 steps.

If you'd like a detailed look at the kit, you can check here:

This is going to be an interesting build!
