Well, Blohm und Voss site informed me that probably original plans were destroyed during the war...so, I guess I should search into Harhaus site or may be better in the Bundesarchiv / Militärarchiv...or may be Herr Dieter Heitmann...

Not mad at all . She's going to be very heavy my friend .
What scale are you thinking of using? Something like 1:350 would be imposable to do as the steel would be to thin.

By the way, being steel not easily workable like polystyrene, but very elastic, I need the plans to project a keel and a skeleton to apply the plates in thin steel on.May be welding them on it.

Ah! My friend you will find that even a 1:100 ship in steel will have some extremely thin areas . 10mm = 0.1mm and there are 3mm (or less ) sheet metal parts that you will have a nightmare with.
Composite materials may be the way to go and you will still have a good ship.

Oh well...I know a person who will bring me 0.01 mm steel sheets, so thickness of the parts won't be a real problem. The real problem will be weld them togheter without melting them I guess... :stubborn:

Hello,

I know there are nice plans of the Bismarck... About the Tirpitz I found nothing, but that doesn't matter it is a difference of 2mm, so what? :D
I saw the plans on a site with alot of books; Look for the books about German Warships or the Bismarck(or maybe Tirpitz). There i found 2 nice plans, but they're in polish...

Bye,

The Captain

btw: Me and my friend(both 14) are trying to make a scratch build Tirpitz at a scale 1:100, it's our first ship :D

Hello Matthias :!:

Many original plans of German KM ships were kept in Berlin in the Naval Institute there (the actual name of the institute escapes me right now).
In 1945, EVERYTHING was taken by the Russians and shiped back to Moscow.
In 1990, after Germany was re-united, a train carrying a "special cargo" from Moscow reached Berlin. The cargo was 40 tons of documents and plans taken in 1945.
Amongst them, were a lot ship plans and other ship related documents.
They used a big Sporthalle to house them at first, after that, they mooved the whole lot to Flensburg, Germany, for a propper sorting out. Unfortunatelly works are VERY SLOW over there it it will take DECADES to record everything gathered there.
Info taken from a relliable source within Blohm & Voss, I don't want to name the source
The Harhaus plans is your best option on this one.
I wouldn't even bother with Bundesarchiv / Militärarchiv ...

@Captain of the Tirpitz

It is very encouraging that you and your friend (both aged 14) are even interested with this subject

Best wishes on your project

Hi George,

All documents which were handed back by the Russians in the Nineties have been sorted and registered. All these documents were then transported to the Bundesarchiv /Militärarchiv in Freiburg where they are now stored and accessible to the public (at no mean costs!)

I know that it has almost been a year since this thread was updated but has anyone been able to find anything new at the Bundesarchiv /Militärarchiv in Freiburg as for plans or reports or anything :?:
