Tirpitz

Post by Phillip »

I am trying to find as much detail as possible about the battleship Tirpitz’s unusual camouflage worn during her fitting out.
In the Kriegsmarine Werft, Wilhelmshaven, winter of 1939.
The whole ship was painted to represent shipyard buildings on port side. Starboard side, irregular blotches??.
I intend to paint my 1/350 model of her in it.
Any information, details ect, would be very much appreciated as I have only a couple of photos at present.

Many Thanks

There are only a handful of photographs and the camouflage sceme is undocumented. She was painted with windows, probably in a poor attempt to make a building out of her.(God knows who would be fooled by that). I'm afraid you have to make up the rest of the camouflage -hidden on the photographs- yourself. Huge artistic license!
