It's not a set par-se. I brought a Scharnhorst book for reference when deciding a hull form for a P-Class and H Class Battlecruiser and Battleship respectivly.

It's called "Battleship Scharnhorst" by "Gerhard Koop & Klaus-Peter Schmolke" ISBN "0-85177-748-1" Price around £10 about 6 months ago.

The book mainly has history from conception to construction and sinking, with maps & pics set, but at the back there are sets of frame plans and deck plans along with gun arcs and strake & rigging plans. It is an A4 book so to be useful you would have to blow it all up on a computer.

Dunno if that is helpful to you. Say what is your e-mail? I got some of the pics scanned somewhere for one of my planned ships so I could send em over and let you decide if u can use em? PM me your e-mail so I can send em if u are intrested

At the Schlachtschiff Forum (now defunct) there was a discussion about that a while ago. There seem to be very few plans for Gneisenau and most use the Scharnhorst plans, although the two ships were not identical.....Try to find a used copy of the Gerhard Koop and Klaus-Peter Schmolke plan roll (Planrolle) http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/3763758 ... F8&seller= or their book http://www.schlachtschiff.com/literatur/index.asp

A 1:200 set of 4 sheets of plans for SCHARNHORST (US$65 !!) is also availbale from http://www.taubmansonline.com/. Abe Taubman (aged 95+) turned all his hundreds of plans over to: http://www.loyalhannadockyard.com/

Indeed the ships were not identical.

Gneisenau's main mast was further forward than Scharnhorst, being immediately behind the funnel, and the aircraft catapults were arranged differently.

Thanks everybody for the replies, good stuff...

Ulrich, I have managed to find a set of the plans you mentioned on Amazon.de, and ordered them. Thank you.

HI Antonio, any details you can give me on the 1942 rebuild would be most helpful.

Thanks all.

Gneisenau

Ciao Mircalla and all,

OK, contact me privately and I will support you with all the details I have about Gneisenau 1942 rebuild in Brest.

Most important was the new hangar and the torpedo tubes installations, plus the vierlings.

Ciao Antonio :D

Hello, everybody.

My apologies for using your thread instead of making a new one, Mircalla. The name of this thread simply was very appropriate for my request.

Recently I bought Siegfried Breyers "Battleship Gneisenau" and although most images were already known to me, I still found something of deep interest. A sketch named Schlactschiff Gneisenau - K235/N4 (Längschnitt 1:100) This is kind of a holy grail to me as it show the internal compartment layout with designations for each compartment of the rebuilt Gneisenau. But unfortunately, and very typical too, the writing is very small. Even if I use a magnifier, I can barely read what's written and so forth this is EXTREMELY frustrating. Does anyone know if a larger sketch is available somewhere? Any help would be very appreciated. Another thing... I assume that K235 mean Konstruktion 235 but how about the N4? Modified versions perhaps?

A little remark to be made... I noticed that the range finders of the Anton turret were removed at this sketch. How would the crew of this turret manage to get target data in local "mode"? Communications with Bruno?

Very best regards

I have Battleship Scharnhorst by Koop, it is in the same league that Marine Arsenal series by Breyer. It is like an "AOTS-with-A-plans-only". The problem is that the plans seems to be taken from the original publication and reduced to fit A4 format. As you said, you need a telescope to view them, and go back and forth to the translated part at the end, as the plans are labeled in German.

This is going to acquire some serious amounts of time, Marcelo... :(

But, by doing this the hard way, I might get to know her a little better at the same time. And that's a hardly a bad thing. Btw, how would the rebuild affect her compartmentation? Could I use this sketch as an internal reference for the 1938-Gneisenau?

Very best regards
