Salvo Patterns - USS North Carolina WW2

Post by Byron Angel »

Someone asked about salvo pattern size in connection with US 16in-armed WW2 BB's. I ran across this while packing today and thought I'd take a quick break and post it for reference. The information comes from a good friend who transcribed it from a May 1942 report document written by the captain.

quote - 16" patterns are about 350 yards at 20,000 and 400 yards at 25,000 yards and are considered OK. - unquote.

Yes. The standard 'Rule of Thumb' for the 16" batteries was that a nine-gun pattern would be about 1.9% of range.
