USS Gambier Bay

Post by Gary »

Hi all

Wikipedia is an amazing source but not always 100% accurate.
The way wiki reads, IJNS Yamato scored primary battery hits on the escort Carrier USS Gambier Bay.
Wiki also cites Chikuma as the probable ship who finshed the CVE off.

Whilst I dont doubt that Chikuma gave the coup de grace - can anyone confirm/deny if Yamato did plant the carrier with one or more 18 inchers?

Thanks
God created the world in 6 days.........and on the 7th day he built the Scharnhorst

I've seen it argued to a considerable degree. I'm pretty sure that they think one of the battleships hit her but it's not clear which one.
