Scharnhorst operated with the 4th Z (fourth destroyer division) during Operation Ostfront. There is some confusion if the destroyers were:
Z29
Z30
Z32
Z34
Z38
OR:
Z29
Z30
Z33
Z34
Z38
Sources vary. Z32/33 was the one the two destroyers that tried to stay with Scharnhorst when Scharnhorst suddenly turned away when searching for the convoy at about 0800 hours. It never did catch up with the Scharnhorst and operated independently for the remainder of the operation.
Does anybody know if the correct destroyer was Z32 or Z33?
