Hi Karl.

Scharnhorst should be top of the "Most beautiful" list :negative:

On the "most powerful" list, swap Hood for Rodney.

On the "most famous" list, Arizona should swap places with Yamato.
I'm sure more people will have heard of the Arizona than have heard of Yamato.

Let´s wait for others´opinions and criteria...

About Most Beautiful Battleship you´ll have to wait until the End of Days because Bismarck would stay there forever, sorry. :stubborn: :stubborn: :stubborn: :stubborn: :stubborn:

Best regards

If "powerful" refers to the ability to inflict and survive damage, Hood and Nagato may not belong. Nelson has been nominated. Notice we would be including all the full-sized post-treaty ships, which makes sense. The most powerful of the old ships was West Virginia.
The most beautiful battleships were the rebuilt Cavours.
Gangut had an elegant appearance until the Soviets started modernizing her. I think Fuso ended up uglier. And if you throw in the pre-dreads, you have a whole bunch of revolting monstrosities.

You are the second who refer about Hood being changed by Nelson. OK, make sense, many 16" guns and armour. Doesn´t speed and manouver capability matter here?

Well, the list will go like this:

I . The Ten Most Powerfull WWII Battleships & Battlecruisers (descending order):
1. Yamato Class
2. Iowa Class
3. South Dakota Class
4. North Carolina Class
5. Bismarck Class
6. Richelieu Class
7. KGV Class
8. ___________ Class Nagato´s place
9. HMS Nelson instead of Hood
10. Littorio Class

Any idea of who goes in Nagato´s place? :?: We must fill the row.

Your call...

If not for the wartime rebuilding of WeeVee, then Nagato would probably deserve that rank.

May be a formula is established for the most powerful, for example:

weight of brodside x range x speed

What do you think?

Statistics do more harm than good.

Hi,

I think, in my opinion, that Nagato, KGV, are most powerfull than Richelieu.

I don't understand to see Royal Oak, Richelieu, Yamato in the list of beautiful battleship.
:?:

And as other, i would replace Yamato by the Arizona.

Best regards

I must disagree regarding Richelieu. She is more powerfully armed than KGV. Her vitals have better deck protection than KGV's (as good as any ship's except Yamato's). Her belt is thick and inclined and backed by worthwhile splinter protection. Her main battery has much more armor than KGV's, not to mention the conning tower. And if we are including mobility, Richelieu has more range and speed than KGV.

In addition, Richelieu's TDS is 75% deeper then KGV's amidships.

Sorry, what does TDS mean?

So, listening to all these and finding that most of you agree in certain points then:

1. Arizona swap place with Yamato in "The Ten Most Famous"
2. Sorry ostriker, but Richelieu stays as a more powerfull BB than the KGV or Nagato.
3. Nagato stays in her place because there is no replacement for her and no one comes forward with one.

Another ideas? this is funny.

Marcelo:

How your rating works? Can you try it with these ships in order to see how they qualify?

Best regards!

About Richelieu. If we look at "Combined Fleet" ratings the French Dreadnought is more powerfull than Old Good Bismarck. Do someone agrees with this or shall we let them stay in their places instead of swap them? :?:

Best regards.

Hmmm, I always thought the Richelieu were an excellent match for the Bismarcks. I think the double 15"quad layout offers many advantanges (and disadvantages). Armouring certainly looks more solid that Bismarck.
