KzS/FdZ Bonte

Post by _Derfflinger_ »

I read in the Norway WW2 forum that a member asked if the body of KzS & FdZ F. Bonte was ever recovered, and if so, does he have a memorial grave. He was lost 10 April, 1940 at Narvik during the night, on, I believe, Z-21 Wilhelm Heidkamp.

Does anybody know?

As far as I know Friedirich Bonte was asleep when the ship was struck and he went down in it. A very detailed book: "Narvik" by Fritz Otto Busch (1940), and endorsed by G-Adm. Raeder, simply states that he is resting at the bottom with his comrades. There is no mention of removing any of the dead for burial on land from the section that remained afloat. The desperate situation at Narvik did not allow to worry about the fallen. You could probably get the answer from the
