Hi all,

Does anybody know that when HMS Hoods loss enquiries were performed whether a diagram, models or pictures was used to point out exactly where Briggs,Dundas and Tilburn were located at the time of the fatal hit and the subsequent minutes? I must have read their accounts a thousand times but I'm trying to visualise exactly where they were.

Also does anybody know if any other other items mentioned in the enquires (such as the reports of the experiments on HMS Marlborough, the sketches of HMS Invincibles loss which I believe were used )still exist, or are available online?

Thanks in advance!

Hello everybody,

Dundas told to the first board (http://www.hmshood.org.uk/reference/off ... 1_to59.htm) he was in Compass Platform at the explosion time.
Briggs (http://www.hmshood.org.uk/reference/off ... htm#Briggs) was within the Compass Platform as well.
Tilburn (according to his witness at the board http://www.hmshood.org.uk/reference/off ... tm#Tilburn), at action beginning, was "Sheltering underneath the forward bridge on the port side; just before the port forward U.P. mounting".

Bye, Alberto

Thanks Mr V for your reply.

I suppose Im asking the impossible but I was wondering where exactly Dundas and Briggs would have been on the compass platform and the positions Tilburn took. I suppose I might have to bite the bullit and buy John Robert's HMS Hood as from memory he did a complete set of line drawings. I know Im asking the impossible but Im trying to imagine where Holland sat, where Dundas and Briggs took their station on the compass platform, where Warrander would have been etc. To me Tilburn's escape is especially amazing as it appears that he really was in the "eye of the storm".

In regards to the other questions ,I know that HMS Marlborough was subject to testing before her disposal where explosives were placed in particular areas to test the strength and weakness's of British magazine practices etc. I was wondering if any of the scholars on here had actually seen the documentation. In the Hood enquiry a witness to HMS Invincible's destruction also happened to be a gunnery specialist I believe was asked to give his experiences and was asked to produce a sketch. I was wondering if these still exist?
