The aircraft-carrying cruiser GOTLAND

Post by Ulrich Rudofsky »

The Swedish aircraft-carrying cruiser "GOTLAND" played a role in the sighting of the "BISMARCK" and "Prinz Eugen". The Kriegsmarine described her as an aircraft-carrying and mine-laying cruiser. In 1943 she was converted to an AA battery ship when her aircraft and launching system became obsolete, and later she served to the end of her life as an air-control beacon ship. The photo of the ship with camouflage plus the white neutrality stripes seems a little weird. Below are some interesting links:

I believe I've seen an excellent model of her in the Maritime Museum of Göteborg, Sweden. Blue aircraft, very interesting ship!

Thank you for your message. Do you think they have plans? My friend John Youngerman wants to build a 1:1200 model. He is the supreme master of scratch-building ships of that scale. http://www.miniaturemodeling.com/

Nice models (also a lot)!

Hmm, I vaguely remember the shop as not having anything useful, so I guess you need to contact them and ask specifically. The model was large scale, and very well built.
