from the discussion bout the USN agaisnts the Spanish NAvy, i got the question
after the USN
who has the biggest navies or most powerful fleets in the world?
I know that at least the British have 3 carriers and are planning to get two new super carriers, while the spanish, italians and french have only one carrier.
the german anvy is rather small, but if u are german u gotta go there na?
but i have no clue about japanese, russian or chines naval foreces.
How would u compare those?

As a matter of fact I believe that the second and third mightiest navies are not in Europe now. The Russian still have the most powerfull nuclear ballistic subs and attack subs as many surface ships including aircraft carriers. I don´t believe that european navies together add to the russian potential.
But still, the Chineese are getting ready and they have an aggressive naval building programs. As an effect of this India and Japan are putting serious money in their fleets too. I believe that Japan wants (and badly needs) to become the Pacific naval power again, only this time as an allied of the USN. There is no doubt that a naval armamentist race is taking place in Asia. Russia will not be willing to miss the shots now as she did in 1991 Gulf War so they are preparing one of her Kirov Class BC.
I think that Britain is putting more new money in her fleet again, which is good, very good. I don´t know about France and maybe Miro can tell us about the new German Navy. Some weeks ago the DW presented a documentary in which a German officer told about the scrappin of the German Naval Air Arm. How is that?

Javier is kidding you Karl. What is under construction is a 25,000-ton amphibious vessel.

But now this is not a dream. The new multi-purpose ship will be launched in 2007 and commissioned in 2008.

well that thing about the German Air Arm.
It's true they are rebuilding the whole armed forces.
Therfore the Tornadoes for the navy are put somewhere else.
I think they also decided to put the main focus of the German navy now on anti-terror and basically they just want to be a small part of the BIG NATO navy instead of being independent.
I think that sux, but well it makes more sense.
and i think the carrier for Germany is cancelled forever.

Don't forget the Indian navy. I believe they are one of the most powerful. I believe they have several small carriers and are completing an ex-Soviet new constuction carrier for their own use. I think it's quite large - in the 50Kton class.
