Cher music video on a Battleship

Post by Karl Heidenreich »

Remember that 80ies musical video of Cher singing "If I could turn back time" in which she appears on the top of a BB´s turret? Well, I believe that ship is an Iowa but never see the number. Someone knows which Iowa was that one?

"1989 was a hectic year in the life of Missouri. The early part of the year found the ship in the Long Beach Naval Shipyard for routine maintenance. Independence Day weekend brought its share of fireworks. Academy Award-winning actress/singer Cher made a rock music video on Missouri's foc'sle. The video also starred a couple hundred members of the crew, and although controversial due to Cher's outfit, it was a smash. The song "If I Could Turn Back Time" was a chart topper. "

Yes, I remember that video! Cher singing "If I could turn back time" on the USS Missouri. I was a young teenager back then and I think I first saw it on MTV or VH1. The sailors on board were really having a good time. :D

Here are some photo stills from Cher's video. This woman really knows how to raise the morale of any crew, eh?

That´s really great! I still remember when I saw that video for the first time. I think that José is right, no one in the crew accepted his license outside the ship that night. :lol:
And about Cher´s outfit I really don´t find anything wrong: MacArthur went to the Japanese surrender on that same deck much worse dressed. :wink:

Maybe you guys understand me wrong... I find Cher´s attire very, but very, exciti... uhm, good :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

Not so MacArthur.

Very best regards.... my day at work isn´t the best today anyway.

P.S. I regard MacArthur as the greatest American General of all times, even more than Patton, and that´s a lot believe me. Just look at his landing at Inchon. But Cher beats him anytime... anywhere.

I found this video on youtube and remembered this thread.
It's not the actual show performed aboard USS Missouri but good anyway. :D

I remember that also. Wish I could have seen it live.

Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood and Earth's foundations stay;
What God abandoned these defended;
And saved the sum of things for pay.

I remember first seeing this video. At the time I thought the scenes on USS Missouri was actually a stage prop, not a real battleship...... how wrong can you be.
