Are you sure about the tonnage? I thought it was over 100,000 tons for the Costa Concordia which as a combination floating hotel - amusement park had accommodations for up to 4000 "guests". The Titanic was a North Atlantic ferry also with hotel accommodations for about half that but most of those in steerage.

Ken I thought it was over 100,000 tons at first too but I looked further and that is Gross tonnage that meassures ship overall internal volume, but the weight of the ship is like Titanic. both ships have +/- the same displacement but Costa Concordia looks bigger because has twice volume of Titanic.

TITANIC
Tonnage: 46,328 gross register tons (GRT)
Displacement: 52,310 tons

COSTA CONCORDIA
Tonnage: 114,137 gross register tons (GRT)
Displacement: 51,387 tons

Its those GRTs that make it look top heavy. The British use to criticize our lend lease CVE's as an "awful lot on top of very little: when viewed from the bow. There's pictures on the internet now that show the interior of this ship. Looks like"Las Vegas Moderne gone to sea".

In response to Pandora, the Titanic had its sixteen watertight compartments and a holing such as on this Italian vessel should not have caused the Titanic to tip over on its side........

Ciao all,

not too much to add, ... we just wait this idiot and coward to pay for what he has done that night.

But there is not only "captain coward" that has to pay for this, ... there are other responsible including the management of costa crociere ( carnival group ).

Bye Antonio :D

Ciao all,

@ pandora,

surely he will be persecuted for having caused 33 persons to die, for a naval disaster and for huge territory damages, those are the main charges to him.

Than there will be an investigation and charges for his conduct as a ship commander during that night and after, since it is clear that he his not only an idiot and a coward, but it is also an intentional liar and tried to cover his responsibilities during that night and also after, and on this there are other persons involved too.

No one will gave him any other ship command and I suppose neither a job on the navy anywere, at least not in Italy.

More to come, ..... surely he owns a unique record, .... having become in one day the most ridiculed and criticized persons in italy .... taking the lead from silvio berlusconi which needed several years and facts to make it almost on the same way .....
